Customer Reviews For Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner

By BookMan (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA)
My old HP scanner (in fact, was not that old), died a few months ago and it was time for me to get a new one. I accidentally came across a predecessor of the S1500 ScanScap (S510), last week, while I was doing my taxes done and was surprised by the speed and compactness of it. My tax person also gave it rave reviews. As I was not aware of the fact that Fujitsu’s product, I thought to do a little research that has led me to the S510 reviews here on Amazon. Rather surprisingly, I was very surprised to discover that the S510 has many reviews extraordinarily high (which I do not think I come across too often, especially with items such as scanners). One of those reviews said that a new model (in this case – the S1500) was just released by Fujitsu. After some more research (it is not yet listed on Amazon), I discovered that this scanner is available and who had many new features. As we have seen, the boy was “first on my block” to acquire one and I’m glad I did! This machine is incredible!

The speed is absolutely blinding – an incredible 20 pages per minute, but, since the scans both sides of a page at the same time, double-sided scanning of documents at 40 pages per minute! Wow As with previous models, this scanner is very small and appears to be well built it is quite heavy for its small size and fits very well on my desk, small computer. The scan quality is just as spectacular – scans up to 600 dpi in color, grayscale and black and white and mine came with a good assortment of software (Adobe Acrobat 9, Rack2-Filer, and ABBYY FineReader ). E ‘document scanning beautiful! While I was too busy scanning of billions of pieces of paper that have filled my life for years (this scanner actually do it quickly and efficiently – something I’ve only ever dreamed it would be possible), I have not tried to crawl photos, I suspect that this scanner will do a good job, but another type of scanner would probably do better for archival purposes).

The only problems I had were with Acrobat (I have Acrobat 9 Pro on my computer) – I discovered that the import of scanned documents previously Rack2-filers were always listed in reverse order (ugh!), And support Fujitsu tech replicated the problem. They suggested, however, that I completely uninstall (not just repair), Acrobat and reinstall it. What did the work. BTW, I received great support from Fujitsu.

One interesting thing is that this scanner comes with TWAIN drivers. Because of this, you can not use it to the same extent as other scanners. The same, my reason to get this scanner was to create PDF files. Scanners and this makes him like no other.

Overall, I’m happy with the Fujitsu S1500 – there is no doubt that it is the best I’ve had (and I had many) and worth the money (the S1500 is also the most expensive scanner I ‘ve ever purchased). I would recommend this to anyone who needs to scan documents.

I never had a dedicated document scanner before. In the past, I used the Auto-Document Feeder on my all-in-one printer / scanner / fax, scan documents in Adobe Acrobat. This meant that for every game of cards, I needed to set the color / / resolution size paper / quality settings and then work with Acrobat, in order to save each file. It worked, but it was slow going.

Then I bought the new ScanSnap 1500, based on the votes of the previous model (the ScanSnap 510). I only installed the main program to my computer (the software also includes OCR programs, programs, organizational, and Acrobat 9, which I have). I connected the scanner and locked in a pile of old notes I have taken some university courses – have been some hints of color, some were b & w, some on both sides, some on one side, and some of the pages upside down . I just press the button on the machine (SCAN), and to my sheer amazement, began to fly through the stack of notes, without further prompting or effort. It then automatically saved my files in PDF format – all the pages were in order, color pages were in color, b & w pages were in b & w, etc. The only problem I noticed is that if there were signs of any kind on the back of my note cards, included those blank pages in the file.

I repeated this process with the cards I could get my hands on. I also tried to attack in documents of various sizes, and it sped through them all, without a problem. Are officially connected. (In a moment of stupidity or genius, I sliced off the spine of an old book and bought that too.)

I noticed a few things worth mentioning in particular: 1) This scanner is much smaller than it looks. I was expecting something the size of an inkjet printer, but it is actually the size of a loaf of bread. 2) You must place the documents in the scanner or GENTLY will jam. If I push the cards too, pulls through several pages at once and the software warns you to start over. 3) You are running the software on Windows 7 RC1, so I can tell you that, at least in my case, it will work on Win7.

I bought this scanner very encouraged by enthusiastic reviews here at Amazon. On the basis of my first two months of using this scanner every few days, I would agree with many reviewers that this is an excellent scanner … if it works or until it works correctly. I liked it so much. But after he began to crawl the twisted, I received no real repair Fujitsu.I feel very disappointed at Fujitsu’s tech support / repair services and decided to write a review, just to warn any potential buyer who does not Fujitsu should have the support if there is any problem with the scanner. I thought in a country like Italy, Fujitsu would really do their best to keep customers satisfied. (I am aware that other buyers might have a better experience than me with customer service Fujitsu).

Here is my story. Two weeks ago I called the technical support of Fujitsu. After 10 minutes of waiting I received through an agent to whom I explained the problem of my scapsnap malfunction. 1 / 4 of a page of scanned text is blurry and what is a straight line of words on my Xerox copy appears later, after the scan, as a wave of words about PDF, word is higher than the lowest just as a wave on a stormy ocean. It looks awful. In any case, the agent asked me questions and I answered them. Then I emailed him a sample page to demonstrate the problem, etc. I received the receipt number of the case and was allowed to send my two months old equipment for repair. The first agent that I confused my personal information over the phone and just said then further sent him via e-mail. The second time I called Fujitsu customer service to correct the errors of the agent 1, I waited 45 minutes and not go to any agent. Were occupied. So I left a message and another agent has called 30 minutes later. Corrected my personal information. Then I needed to send a fax. I do not have one so I went to a place where there is one. Then packing. I packed the unit in its original box and I also put in another, a little larger box and wrapped in protective material, for added protection in shipping. All this took me almost half a day (including my time spent at UPS). Today I received my ScanSnap back. The additional box is rejected or thrown away by the repair service, because my unit was shipped in its original box and does not seem as good as it used to when I was sent for repair. However, as called for repair of this unit and the Fujitsu technical support / repair, I found the experience more frustrating with any technical support / repair 40 years of my life: half a day lost for authorization to send this unit, spent $ 16.68 plus UPS shipping (never returned), and now I returned the scanner without any act by the services about the problem. But when I started the scan I immediately understood why. The first pages scanned revealed the right to guarantee a client that does not mean much to repair services Fujitsu. They have done absolutely nothing. The same problem is visible on each page was scanned. Large portions of pages crawled out of focus and distorted (ripple effect). Only I know how disappointing and humiliating, I feel, with all that lost time, not to mention $ 400 spent in August on this scanner.
