It's Ok
I purchased these for a company I work for to be installed at all of the remote locations. They fit within the budget and had features that were asked for. However: I have rated this product at a middle (3 star - It's Ok) rating due to several factors. I do want to say that for the price/features it seems to work great.
Reasons for my rating:
* Would like to see better quality image.
* Secure View (the software that comes with it) lacks a few features that are within the admin area of the camera itself and are very useful tools.
* Lack of instructions for a more advanced set up.
* Sound quality: These camera were installed in a store/retail environment and due to the different sounds within this environment, the built in mic leaves a little to be desired. It has a difficult time filtering out background noise. Might be ok in a less noisy environment.
Configuration where cameras were installed:
* WiFi network Dlink routers
* High speed internet (cable or DSL 4Mbs/768K) Found it to be slow and jerky in the slower locations, we have upgraded our ISP to accommodate the cameras eating up the bandwidth.
* Configured camera with static IP/Web address (DynDNS). I would highly recommend this! can be a little cumbersome to a non-IT person, but Trendnet support was helpful (it may take a little time, so have some time to work with support).
All in all my experience with these cameras was a little frustrating in the beginning and the setup, but once I understood what Trendnet was looking for I was able to configure the others very easily with very little problems.
I would recommend this camera to someone who wants to watch their home or a single office space (1000sf and under), etc...

Didn't work out for me (Wireless a complete failure, wired a horrible laggy experience)
I bought this IP camera based on the reviews, although it had it's share of negative feedback. However, overall, it looked promising. Well.... after 3 hours of dinking with it, it got returned to Amazon. I AM technically inclined, but getting this camera to work smoothly with my setup( Cradlepoint MBR1000 router and computer wih Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit) was beyond my ability. I never got it to work wirelessly. The webpage would just hang after changing the wireless configurations to work with my router. The router would give it an IP address by the way and the camera would blip in and and out existence on the router's wireless devices list. Even when wired, it was SOOOOO laggy that is was unusable. Anyway, maybe it didn't like Cradlepoint, maybe it didn't like Vista 64 (although I would think this wouldn't be a problem since it works by IP access through Internet Explorer), but after 3 hours of wasted time, I didn't like it! Just my experience for your consideration.
Great Camera!!!
I am giving this an overall rating of four stars for two reasons. The first one is because they don't tell you to get a strong wireless router. I had a Linksys (I am not knocking the Linksys brand) WRT120N which is not near as strong a signal to run multiple devices but i did not know that at first with this camera. This camera takes up some bandwidth so get a good quality router such as the D-Link DIR-655 N+300. This router works wonders with this camera and several devices within the home. The other reason is because the average user may not be able to set this camera up for wireless. The instructions to set them up for wireless for the average person is located here: [...]. They are using a Trendnet router but if you know what you are doing this is simple to set up for any other router. It took me about 30-45 minutes to set up. I am a Systems Administrator so this was not difficult to set up for me but it may be for others.
One great thing about the user interface is once it is setup for other people to use you can create multiple users in different groups and the guest view does not let them move the camera. The only thing that the guest users can do is look at the current view of the camera and listen to the audio. You can turn that audio off if you do not want anyone to listen in. This camera also has a auto patrol option that can be changed as far as time intervals go. You can set each of the eight options to move between 1-999 seconds per location when using the auto patrol option. It has 8 different patrol options that can be changed and renamed. You can pan and tilt manually also.
Overall this camera does exactly what I bought it for. My wife wanted a way to view our son from work. The user interface is very simple to operate. Most of the settings can be changed remotely if needed, the picture quality is great during the day and at night, and the setup for users is great. I would recommend this camera and company to anyone wanting basic security options around the house or for the use of a baby cam.
Pros: Ease of use, picture quality day/night, pan/tilt options, remote manage, and user setup.
Cons: I can't think of anything
Good but not great.
When I first installed the camera (via wired as instructions suggest), I couldn't get the wireless feature to work. Ends up I had to reboot my wireless router. I've never had to do that with any other wireless device I've installed. Once I rebooted the router, I could connect to the camera via wireless.
The sound quality is good. It can pick up the slightest of noises. The video quality is pretty washed out in anything but a brightly lit room. (in nightmode or not) Pretty much dark colors look gray, sometimes even purple. But the night mode makes up for it. This thing sees pretty well in the dark.
I can view it over the internet and control it. That is really a plus. And if you hook speakers up to it, you can even communicate with anyone around the camera. Good for when I have to yell at the dog to not pee in the room or the cat to get off my desk. (it has a built-in microphone, but needs speakers to talk back)
The instructions could be a bit better and give more examples of the settings. I did have to contact TRENDnet's support when I couldn't get the wireless to work. They were a little slow to answer but they did try to help me. I figured the problem out on my own though.
It can be set to motion detect on a schedule and send an email alert. If you plug in a NAS (network attached storage) device to your network you can have this camera record video to it. (Or to your computer)
Pretty good camera features for the price. (Wait until Amazon has them for 9.99 again) :)
IP Camera
Great little unit. We were very pleased. Day video quality is very good, though the night vision is lacking. I plan on buying more of these.
You know a couple of days ago. Very easy to configure. It was my set up my wireless network in minutes. Much better video quality than I expected for this price.
Certainly meant to be used at home in low light conditions. When I point out the window, the image of lava just come and go all white. But at home with normal lighting, the picture is great. night picture is very good. The built-in IR LEDs work well to about 20 feet or so. Beyond that, things are pretty dark. I tried an experiment and turned on a desk lamp with a very low power fluorescent lamp and the camera was enough light to see everything in-house color. Really good low light performance.
The microphone is very sensitive. Almost too sensitive. It collects every sound in the house. I can hear the ceiling fan, air conditioning, TV in another room, people talking to other rooms, etc. It has 2-way audio Have but not yet tried. UPDATE bidirectional audio works great. Need an engine, amplified speakers, I used an old computer speaker.
Super easy to use. You do not need any special software to remotely view, just Internet Explorer. You can view with Firefox, but you lose some functionality. When viewing remotely over the Internet, you can click anywhere on the image and the camera focuses on this point.
Tons more options and features, but you can read about them on the producers website.
If this were a true optical zoom, it would be almost perfect, but full Pan Tilt Zoom cameras costing much more than that.
I am pleasantly surprised with this camera. I have tried several ‘affordable’ cameras in recent years and I was very disappointed with them. The only really good network PTZ I found is a Panasonic nine hundred U.S. dollars. Too expensive for me and has no audio.
If you need full range of audio and Pan Tilt ant, but they do not need zoom, this is probably your best choice now for any price. Panasonic makes a nice, small, wireless camera with audio and pan and tilt, but has no range of motion that has the camera and this camera has much better low light image quality.
REVIEW UPDATE-I had my now for several months and still works great. I changed the video setting of “outdoor” and now works perfectly in full sun. It still works as good in complete darkness as he did with the video settings. Have been some problems with the camera is losing the wireless connection to my Linksys router. I had to power cycle the camera to make it reconnect. But then I started having other problems with the Linksys router so I replaced my old Linksys router with a router D-Link’s most recent problems have disappeared. The camera has not lost its connection since I replaced the router.
Since this camera is sensitive to UV rays and does not have a mechanical filter switchable UV daylight images sometimes seem a bit ‘fuzzy, as if the lens is dirty. This is most evident when viewing indoors with lots of sunlight coming through the windows. I have other cameras sensitive to UV light and have the same behavior.
Overall, I am still quite satisfied with this camera and only that Amazon would make it a Gold Box deal so I could get another!
Amazon has recently developed the Wireless Network Camera Panasonic BLC131A sale for about half price so I picked one to try. The Trendnet TV-IP422W is far superior to Panasonic, has a much better picture quality, sound quality and range of motion, and configuration screens Trendnet seem much more intuitive for me.
If Trendnet add a zoom lens and a mechanical filter UV, this camera would be perfect.

First of all, do not expect much from the wireless capabilities. It ‘nice to have, eg for portability but not for the reliability or stability.
I bought 4 of these cameras, mounted wirelessly with all of them (a) door, (b) the back door (c) kitchen and (d), foyer, keep an eye on our dog. I thought you might be able to jump on the pet hotel expenses and have a great peace of mind at the same time. I set my router, and solve the remote web access also had to work with my iPhone application eyecam $ 5. The $ 25 IP View Pro app does not work with the data flow IP422W’s.
When I was still at home and before my first trip to test these cameras, a camera would be missing from the network and never to be seen again after a reset. Amazon promptly sent a replacement, but only after I discovered you really need to leave these cameras disconnected for more than a few minutes before was really re-initialized.
Then we went on our vacation and after a few hours into it, one of four cameras were MIA. Still, it was great be able to see our dog through the other cameras work. However, day 2, we are left with only two cameras and work on the way back, only one camera was working. Of course, keep in mind, there’s nothing you can do to fix unless that finding someone to go to your home, disconnect and reconnect to the room’s AC adapter (a reboot).
The following week, we continued our second and more long vacation and was more or less the same story. First, you tease with relief that it’s working but he never fails to disappoint with a camera not working by day 2 or 3. On our way home from this trip for five days, only one camera was working.
When we got home, I decided to research this further and have opened two tickets with Trendnet, the 2nd one, have not even bothered to respond. Now with the dizzying experience of being able to control the house when we are away, I was prepared to send back to Amazon Trendnets and exchange them for much more expensive Toshibas, Sonys or Axises.
But after much research, I quickly concluded that almost all of these IP cams only have very strong wi-fi components. Most reviews were plagued with widespread reports of missed connections, reboots and the like.
Still, I pushed forward, updated the router’s firmware to DD-WRT, hit its transmitter range, added another router as a repeater, router has moved to higher ground as I also tried to exchange the antennas farthest camera with multiple antennas that came out of an older Linksys router. Currently, there is probably sufficient signal strength in my house to serve the neigboring five roads!
But, of course, a camera or another still continue to drop ever, to be heard again until they are restarted. I thought it would be great if you car re-connected again after some time, but never did, not once.
The geek in me then how innovation, perhaps I can create a script, reboot every two days, using X10 power modules and reboot them remotely. Then my wife gently reminds me that we just spent a grand cameras that have questionable features.
At this point, I offer kudos to those who have written on this same subject, on vain attempts to solve the problems of wi-fi on with the next router to the camera, still lost connections. The optimist in me has finally accepted my wi-fi is not the problem, these cameras do not work well with WI-FI. Not that the wi-fi does not work at all, just do not work consistently.
So finally, I bit the bullet and reluctantly wired ethernet connections to all cameras. I explored using POE Homeplug and possibly to ease the pain of installation but added more to the point of failure and cost a bit ‘more as well. At the end I chose to holes in the wall, for example, fishing and made the hard-wired routines.
It ‘been a week since my connection / plaster / drywall / painting work has just ended and the cameras were 24×7 live without a hiccup.
All in all, the IP422W is big, has a sufficiently good IR decent, great low light capabilities to 15 feet, unparalleled angles of pan and, above all, a good value for money. Do not expect an optical zoom or a continuous wi-fi.
We bought this camera to keep track of our children at home in their playroom, and keep an eye on our daughter, who Occasionally seizures at night that are difficult to identify just to listen. This system is a bit ‘overkill for that purpose, but the following are some things that made us settle on this camera instead of a generic baby video monitoring system:
* E ‘encrypted, so people can not spy on what’s happening in our house.
* E ‘digital, so it works with all the wifi connections in our neighborhood, instead of interfering and being interference.
* E ‘online, so I can check in on children and feel like you’re part of the family when they are in office.
The camera uses a regular wifi connection, and opens the web page of the camera to view the video. There are controls on the side of the webpage that allow you to move the camera around, turn the sound on and off, and things like that. There are 8 preset label that you will immediately move the camera to selected locations, which is a great feature. There is a button to scroll through all 8 presets once and then return to where it was before watching. You can set up guest users without access to commands, but can only view the video stream.
Although some options, setup was relatively easy, with all available on a web page separate configuration. They did a good job of laying out the hierarchy of menus to make things easier to find, even if there were enough configuration options that I’m certain the first time through.
Some disadvantages are:
* Some things work only in Internet Explorer with ActiveX controls. This is not a problem for almost everyone unless you happen to use Mac or Linux, like me. The basic functionality is all there, except for sound. I was able to work around that, but it seems strange to take the effort to support other browsers and operating systems with a Java applet, then stop short of full functionality.
* The complete manual is on CD-ROM, the only printed manual is a Quick Installation Guide.
* The camera does not tilt very far down, which creates annoying blind spots when placed on a shelf or something. However, there is a mounting bracket that we used to mount upside down, which gave us the full range of movement we needed. There is a configuration option to flip the image back upright.
* I wish it had a zoom, but wide angle lens is a good choice if you must have a fixed lens.
* The camera occasionally needs to be restarted after experiencing a heavy load.
* The infrared illuminator will not turn on automatically when it gets too dark, which is weird because the camera adjusts the brightness quite well otherwise. There is a night mode button on the webpage.
* Some of the default configuration is frustrating, as an increase of 1 degree pan and tilt. It would be good if you could just hold the button, but the website will not let you do it, and displays an annoying message “Please wait” every time you click the buttons too fast. The increase can only be changed on the configuration page, but not a big problem because once the presets are set up, we almost never use the pan and tilt buttons.
* I wish it had a function to disable guest access at certain times. It would be nice to give children access to grandparents’ out of state, but would feel icky in the evening when we are all in his pajamas to get the people looking for us. I think I can set a schedule on my router firewall, though, and you have a program detects motion and I could use to upload images for the blog family.
* It would be nice if the lights on the front indicated when someone was watching the video, not only is there a link.
